Even baby milk powder is not spared. Melamine, an illegal chemical normally used in plastics, is derived from coal and is about 66 percent nitrogen. It is found in fertilizer, flame retardant clothing, countertops, dyes, glues and many other household items. When added to milk, it gives the appearance of higher protein levels, even though it contains no nutrients. Most protein tests take nitrogen levels, so melamine's chemical structure is able to fool the instruments. Some dairies water down their milk, and melamine boosts protein readouts to mask the result., was found in a number of milk products.
So far, Melamine has been blamed in China for four infant deaths and illnesses in 6,200 who drank tainted milk powder.
A 3-year-old girl in Hong Kong was also diagnosed with a kidney stone after drinking milk containing melamine.Received some messages last night from different pals but all of them relating the same message:

The White Rabbit-brand Creamy Candy imported from China were also contaminated with melamine. I used to be able to finish the whole packet by myself in a single day ‘cause it is so yummy! Yucks! I’ve got melamine in me too.

Speaking of melamine which can be found in plastics, there used to be an article about Malaysia’s Goreng Pisang which was deep fried in oil mixed with plastics. There were some unsubstantiated reports that some hawkers in Malaysia are adding plastics straws and bottles into boiling oil and frying it with their snacks, which then remain extra crispy for several hours.
Then there’s this story with pictures that showed how workers in China prepared pork for sale. They collected DEAD pigs from farm owners as it was cheaper and stored them in rusty trucks and dirty warehouse and even used bathtub! I can’t locate this piece of email though all else I can put up pictures of it.
